The FERA workshop in Ljubljana was hosted by Slovene members DSR (Directors' Guild of Slovenia) and AIPA, in association with SAA (Society of Audiovisual Authors) and FSE (Federation of Screenwriters in Europe).
On the agenda was "Copyright in the DSM: Audiovisual authors’ need for fair and proportionate remuneration".
SAA welcomes the Resolution on a coherent EU policy for cultural and creative industries (CCIs) which calls for the “establishment of the right to fair remuneration and legal protection for authors”. SAA now calls on the Parliament to make this a reality by adding such a right for audiovisual authors in its work on the European Commission’s copyright Directive proposal.
A delegation of audiovisual authors and their collective management organisations (CMOs) from across Europe met Members of the European Parliament in Strasbourg to discuss copyright package ahead of the announcement of the winner of the European Parliament’s LUX Film Prize.
The wide-reaching copyright package presented today by the European Commission is met with a mixed reaction by SAA. Beyond these first steps to support authors, SAA calls for greater ambition at EU level for screenwriters and directors.
