SAA publishes comments on Vitorino Private Copying Report

Recommendations risk undermining the private copying system as a whole by persistently favouring device manufacturers and importers while having devastating effects on weaker parties, such as audiovisual authors, and consumers.

In this document, the SAA expresses its concerns regarding the recommendations’ aim to restrict the scope of private copying in order to reduce potential compensation to rightholders and increase the cost of implementation of the system. It stresses that the recommendations risk undermining the private copying system as a whole by persistently favouring device manufacturers and importers while having devastating effects on weaker parties, such as audiovisual authors, and consumers.

The SAA believes that the system of private copying levies as a modern, clever and balanced system should be upheld to the benefit of both authors and consumers.
