Gerhard Ertl is an Austrian screenwriter, director and producer. He studied Experimental Design, Painting and Graphic Art at the University of Art and Design Linz. Together with Sabine Hiebler he forms the team Hiebler, Ertl. Their films span the range from experimental films to feature films. Their collaborations have been shown at numerous exhibitions, such as the Ars Electronica, the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna and the Biennale de l’image Paris. After having directed and produced award-winning avant-garde films that premiered at the New York Film Festival and the Berlinale in the 1990s, they turned to writing and directing feature films, such as Nogo (2002), Anfang 80 (Coming of Age, 2011) and Chucks (2015). Their last film, written and directed together Sargnabel- der Film (Coffin’s Nail-the movie) was released in 2021.
