Stefan Ruzowitzky is an Austrian director who won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film for his movie Die Fälscher (The Counterfeiters, 2007). He is also known for Die Siebtelbauern (The Inheritors, 1998) Anatomie (Anatomy, 2000) and Die Hölle (Cold Hell, 2017). Ruzowitzky studied drama and history at the University of Vienna. In the early years of his career, he directed documentaries and commercials and also made music videos of noted artists such as N’Sync and Scorpions. More recently he directed the horror British film Patient Zero released in 2018 and episodes of the German Sci-Fi TV mini-series 8 Tage in 2019. His film, Narziss and Goldmund (Narcissus and Goldmund), the adaptation of Hermann Hesse's famous novel, was released in March 2020. In 2021, he directed the crime thriller movie Hinterland, as well as four episodes of the TV series Barbarians, about the Teutobourg’s battle in the ninth year after A.C.
