Jakub Režný is a Czech screenwriter and director for TV and cinema (documentary and fiction). After graduating in dramaturgy from the Janáček Academy of Arts of Brno, he worked on projects drawing on historical facts and research. He co-developed the award-winning computer game Czechoslovakia 38 – 89 – Assassination (2015). In 2017, he directed Černé zlato (Black Gold), a two-part historical documentary about miners’ living conditions. He gained popularity when Dukla 61 (The Mine Inferno), for which he wrote the screenplay, won many awards, including the Czech lion for Best television film or miniseries in 2018 and was nominated for the Czech film critics award 2018, the Prix Europa 2018 and Monte-Carlo Television Festival 2019. As a screenwriter, he is currently preparing two TV miniseries: Vedlejsi produkt (By-product) and Border, co-produced by Czech Television.
