Europe's audiovisual creativity in the spotlight

The Society of Audiovisual Authors (SAA) brought together screenwriters, directors, collective management organisations and MEPs on Tuesday to show off Europe's audiovisual creativity and stimulate the debate on how the European Parliament can ensure the best conditions for its creators and the continued development of the audiovisual sector.

Lars Lundström and Harald Hamrell, the creators behind the Swedish hit "Real Humans" presented the first episode of the series, which is currently shooting ist second season.  Alongside Camilla Ahlgren (screenwriter on the Bridge) and Hervé Hadmar (screenwriter and director of Pigalle la nuit) they spoke about how they see the work of screenwriters and directors and European TV production as well as authors' rights.

Hosted by Françoise Castex MEP and Helga Trüpel MEP, the event came as the European Parliament considers the Collective Rights Management Directive and the future trade agreement with the United States.

Cécile Despringre, SAA Executive Director, said that: "We are delighted to be able to give MEPs the opportunity to meet the creators behind such a successful European series and to hear from them directly how important their rights are and the work of their collective management organisations.  The work of the Parliament at the moment could really make a big impact on these creators."
