Women in film under the spotlight at Cannes

Directors UK report among others to be discussed at European Audiovisual Observatory workshop at Cannes film festival

The focus of the yearly workshop of the European Audiovisual Observatory this year is women in cinema.  The workshop is timely as a number of studies on the issue have been produced over the last six months.  Entitled “Girls just want to have film!” the workshop will also be the occasion for SAA member, Directors UK, to present its latest study on the issue (available here), which shows that despite women representing almost 30% of the TV and film directing workforce, attitudes within the media industry are preventing them from reaching their full potential.

Later in the week on Tuesday 20th May at , SAA's Frenchmember SACD will host a Q&A on a recent study on the same issue by the French CNC entitled "The Place of Women in cinema and TV" (La place des femmes dans le cinéma et l'audiovisuel) available here.

UPDATE (19/5/14):  The presentations for the European Audiovisual Observatory workshop are now available online.  You can read them here.
