La Société des Auteurs et Compositeurs Dramatiques

SACD, which exists for over 200 years, brings together over 55,000 writers & directors of audiovisual, cinematographic and web works, as well as in performing arts. Il collects their royalties and offers them a lot of professional services. Among other things, the SACD provides material and technical support, organizes specifics events for authors and contributes with a variety of funds to the support for cultural action and diversity. It defends the creator’s freedom and their rights, by intervening with European bodies, public authorities and professional organizations.

    “Fight for your rights, and your crazy ideas” were the words of young creators at an online event on 27 April 2022 organised by the Society of Audiovisual Authors in partnership with the European Parliament’s Cultural Creators Friendship Group, celebrating the European Year of Youth and World IP Day. Young European filmmakers and Youtubers shared their experiences of how to make a living on online media and streaming platforms, in conversation with members of the European Parliament.

    On 1 January, the French Presidency of the Council of the EU began. Put aside the pandemic and the upcoming French elections, the expectation on the Presidency from creators and their representative organisations is still high as France was the very first country - decades before the rest of the world - to recognize authors’ sovereignty over their creative works.
